Your network should be set to private unless you are running a domain network at home and should not be set to public at home. If it is set to public, a quick Google search should find how to set it back to private if it won't let you change the mode

Hmmm I've modified the settings and got my housemate to try and connect but it still times out for him. As for the network, its set to private.
