Last I checked, changing the state of the data sharing clears the stats. In the past, they were not shown if the sharing was off. As of one of the firmware versions last year, the stats are now shown when the data sharing is off.

It is possible, that the stats are cleared either when they are turned off or turned on. In older firmware, as you could only see them when they were off, you had to do both. I haven't tested to see if it is a turn-off or turn-on only, or they are cleared for both.
