Even after installing the Kobotouchextended (and restarting Calibre), the Kobotouchextended settings cannot be accessed I'm not even talking about connecting with Kobo.

I'm not surprised that the error also happened when you tried to open the configuration. I was sort of thinking that would happen when I suggested configuring the driver.

I can't think of why this is happening. @PeterT's suggestion about special characters in your username is about the only thing I can think of. But, I also woudn't expect that to be the case for a portable install. But, what directory are you installing calibre to?

I might be able to get a clue from a debug log. Could you run calibre in debug mode, repeat the above and post the log? Debug mode is started by right-clicking on the preferences button and choosing the option. Calibre will restart and display a message about debug mode. Do the above actions and then close calibre. It will then display the debug log. Post that, or PM it to me if your prefer.
