You have to go back to the drawing board and create a real ebook from this (as in, text is actual text, and can be copied/pasted/resized, etc.).
And both didn't display the images properly? Strange.
The only thing I could think of is on older devices, like the original Nook, if you had images >~3.5 million pixels, they sometimes just disappeared, because the device itself didn't have enough RAM. These are around 3 million (1410x2250).
