Canada and the USA have phone numbers of the form (npa) nxx-xxxx where npa is what is called the area code. Each area code is assigned to a specific geographic area. If you google toronto area code, you will see a list of area codes that are used in toronto. Some are landline, some are cell. The area code doesn't care about the device.
