The metadata management option is the most likely reason at the moment. The Update metadata options in the driver have no impact on the collection management.

@SSQ: If the metadata management option is set to automatic and the collections are still not being created, run calibre in debug mode, connect the device and post the debug log. I can usually see what is wrong from that.
