In the Right pane of Device View, every book was showing the correct Library location which was also where "metadata.calibre" and "driveinfo.calibre" are located. I should've done a recording first because what was odd was that none of the books in device view showed a cover or metadata in the right pane. However, if I double clicked to open the book the cover and metadata was there. In Library View the covers and metadata for same books where present in the right pane.
The lack of cover in the device list is sort of expected. In that case, it is trying to get the cover from the book, not the other file. It

As you'll see in this screen shot below, the Auto Connect Startup folder was the exact same folder as my Library:

And that is what was expected from comments made earlier. This was a very bad thing and you are probably lucky your library wasn't corrupted. The fact it wasn't was probably because you never tried to send a book to the device.

After pressing the "Reset this tweak" button and applying the changes Calibre no longer opens to a device.

I'd also like to mention something else that I have observed all along and still do. When I run Check Library it states:

"Found no errors in your caibre library database. Do you want calibre to check if the files in your library match the information in the database?"

When I click Yes, the only issue that appears is within invalid authors section as shown here:

Because you are connecting to your library as a device, that is expected. Calibre creates those files to help track what is on the device. But, when it is treating the directory as a library, these files are not expected.

Not connecting to your library as a device should solve some of your problems. I'm not sure if it solves your original save-to-disk problem. You will probably need to try that again.
