Okay, that’s closer to a decent definition of the issue: it’s not a random request, but a modification to bring existing behavior in line with the spec. That makes a certain amount of sense and takes the issue from “why bother” to “sensible, if plausible.”

Thing is, the possibility of cover image replacement through calibre’s “Edit metadata” dialog still exists, and that’s completely beyond Modify’s control, as are any changes that makes to the ebook. So this patch can’t be a cure-all. We might get lucky enough that calibre won’t bother changing this, but that’s not something we can rely on.

Next up: Can you point me at the specific sections of the EPUB 3 specs (I don’t know whether the requirement has changed in any of the point versions) which discuss this, so I know exactly what is called for and precisely where?
