Well the original game was full length game and the expansions where usually relative lengthy add ons that were new stories etc.
Now we're seeing things on console games left out that should have been in to start with--pay extra to unlock a multiplayer mode, or costumes for characters in fighting games etc. Stuff that previously was already in the game from the start or was unlocked by beating certain things rather than having to pay for something.
So that's the difference with this kind of nickel and diming vs. the expansions on PCs. I was never into PC gaming anyway, always been a console gamer.
