OK, how do I reset things? I was looking at the unhelpfully-named Protect/Unprotect Custom Columns menu items and all the custom columns in my edit metadata pop-up have disappeared and I can’t get them back.

They’re needed for my log book in LibraryThing process. Mac OS 10.13.6, calibre 3.48. No, I’m not upgrading any further - not until I can deDRM books in ADE without resorting to virtual machines.

(What I’m trying to achieve is to display the calibre book ID in the edit metadata pop-up, so I can click next in the pop-up, adding the calibre ID to the LibraryThing record, and the LT id to the calibre record. At the moment, I can display the calibre ID as a custom column in the booklist grid, but I have to go into edit metadata to add the LTID in the ids field. This has to be done individually for each calibre record and makes the process annoyingly time-consuming.)
