Hello.
I recently got my hands on an old Kindle 4th gen (the one with the 5 way directional buttons). It's a hand me down, and it's serving its purpose. Sometimes I get the screen refreshing thing but I got over that.
I'm loading books on it by sending my files via email through Calibre. I find it the easiest way for me to read, since I also have the app on my phone. Whispersync is a dream since it also works for non-Kindle books (I used to have a Kobo before, but I don't think it ever did that, anyways).
My main issue right now is collections. Since the 4th Gen has a clunky UI, and finding books in the same series is kinda getting to be a chore. I tried the Calibre plug in, but the collections it makes doesn't seem to get saved when I reset my Kindle. Manually making collections on the device seems to survive a factory reset.
I've noticed there's an option in the archive items to add other device collections, but it's always empty. None of the collections I make on the website and on the app show up there.
The collections I make on the web reflect on the app, and it's easier to sort books/docs using a browser than on my Kindle.
I guess my main question is (sorry for rambling), is accessing collections saved on the cloud not at all possible for the Kindle 4th Gen? It's not really a big problem, but it does make sorting waaaaay easier if I can just do them on the web, since I also have to do it for my app anyways. Might as well just do it once if it's possible.
Thanks for any info you guys might provide.
PS: I know accessing collections on the cloud is possible on the newer Kindles, but with everything happening right now a new Kindle is not just possible. I'd like to have a paperwhite, but even if I did have the extra cash, no stores/deliveries are open
