Yeah, things are shutting down here too, despite very few cases in my city so far. And there's panic buying. Every morning at 8 am for years I have gone down to my local mini-mall to do my daily shopping (I mostly eat fresh, not processed) and buy a newspaper. Usually at 8 am the car park is near empty and I'm the early bird. Last few days, car park is jammed at 8 am, and there's a mob waiting for the stores to open. Totally bizarre.
Aussie rules football playing in empty stadiums. Anzac Day dawn service (April 25) cancelled. Anybody flying into Australia has to self-isolate for two weeks.
My brother, who worked in this sort of field until his recent retirement, told me weeks ago that it would take 2 or more years minimum for a vaccine. (At one stage he had the UK's only "hot lab" under construction in his workplace.)
I'm 75 so I'm sort of in the age danger zone, though I've always been resistant to flu and cold when they're in season. And just about anything else, for that matter; I have had exactly one surgery in my life, and that was for cataracts. My only hospital trip since infancy, and only a day procedure.
Currently approaching book upload No 500, looks like I'll make it safely. (494 today).
