What I do is if the metadata needs fixing, I do it directly in the OPF using the Calibre editor. I have not polished in a very long time. If the metadata is correct, there's no need to polish. In most cases, the metadata is correct. Other then the metadata, what would you be polishing? You did make it sound like it was a good idea to always polish.
