Some of us PLAN for Regional disasters and have supplies to give the infrastructure time to recover (at least, get the light back on).
In New Jersey, my folks had a Winters coal stored (Later it was fuel oil and a Generator to run the boiler burner), and a pantry with a month of canned goods (boring, but starving was not happening)
Here in California, Earthquake preparedness is the big push by local agencies. It can be days before the power/water is restored or roads open (remember the overpasses that dropped and blocked major routes?).
In the Southwest: Tornadoes (whatever happened to Storm Cellars being common?)
And just about everywhere: Wildfires. Sometimes having supplies is not what is needed. Having Exit Plans that take REALITY into consideration (I have been on some of the roads where the Paradise fire was. 20 Miles of narrow roads where 25MPH was speedy.
The bottom line is: Don't count on someone else (not in residence) for immediate help.

And remember to rotate out your emergency supplies that have lifetime limits.
