I don't find any visual noise on Goodreads. I find it's very easy to use. You can just use it for tracking your books without ever needing to use any of the social aspects. You don't need to use the forums or have any friends list. There is only one forum I suggest using sometimes and that's the librarian forum so you can report any errors in listings to be fixed.
