The games were on the old readers back in the day. Later they hid them. I don't know why they should be a problem, you wouldn't see them unless you'd want to and use a patch or devmode.
Furthermore, anyone willing to put up with e-ink being slow can use the browser to check their email etc. Would you like to go back to the stoneage and have ereaders without wifi? If so, there are options for you.
Meanwhile those who like to download their books directly to their reader, look up words on google or wiki and what else wifi allows us to do, are happy to have these options.
I am curious, what do you want to be improved? I find the Kobos quite perfect. So I am wondering what you'd like to have they haven't.
