That is correct, but that feature was a 'surprise' except to code spelunkers like yourself: there was never anything in the What's New description with the update itself, they just wanted to coordinate the release with some press announcement (and launch of 8th gen Kindle, and completion of parallel feature for Fire, iOS, and Android apps). And it really is a nice feature.
But the Aa enhancements have been announced in What's New, so it should be considered 'imminent' and not something we'll have to wait another 4 months for (why would Amazon do that for such a boring and unremarkable feature?). Plus the equivalent feature is already in the Kindle iOS app. Hence my impatience and WTF-ness. Turn on the switch already. Maybe we're just waiting for enough Kindles to have 5.12.4 on them before that happens.
In contrast, I'm not expecting to see the Cover option any time soon, as they have not made any official mention of it.
