I am using the Wired daily and Wired Monthly they both work for me.
Wired does block request after it detects you have viewed 10 articles.
It then shows "You’ve read your last complimentary article this month."
Perhaps you're IP is blocked straight away?
Are you on the latest version of Calibre?
