There's an easy way to remove that stain -- good old fashioned household (chlorine) bleach (javex). Something on the order 1-2% (5-10 ml in a typical 16 oz mug) in the mug along with a drop or two of dishwashing liquid, and let stand for a half hour or so.
(It's actually a good idea to keep a container of 10% bleach in the kitchen anyway, as a disinfectant. (For example, when working with raw meat (especially poultry!), one should always bleach the cutting board or counter surface that the meat has been in contact with.) Much easier on the downstream environment than other, more expensive, disinfectants. )
