Worn out or poor quality bettery.
Rechargeable batteries drain slowly all by themselves e.g. sitting on a shelf, not in a device
A typical AA rechargeable as will go flat in a few months, unaided.
Having said that my readers and tablets do not seem to drain at all if powered off for days, so i suspect you have a bad battery. Either that ,or kobo power off does not mean fully office?
