What you're asking is can calibre merge text and comic formats with a click or two?
The answer is no.
What you've done - add the images to the RTF with Word is as good any way, especially if you're familiar with Word.
How will you read the book?
If you need to convert to an ebook format for an e-reader device or an android/ios app I recommend saving as DOCX and converting that.
