Don't have to. I've done that kind of thing countless times. Finding the image (or any file) in such a situation is not what takes the most time.
Editing the image is what takes the most time.

I say "little reward" because I don't believe this is something that will help very many people. Not because I think it's a bad idea. I'm not condemning the idea. I'm just saying the amount of work it will involve to implement, and the small number of people it would please, means that I'm not willing to take it on at this time. If someone else is willing, I'll be happy to merge any reasonably efficient solution that someone comes up with.
