I wonder if it is related to these books being updated from publisher side?
I've noticed some time ago, in the "Your Content and Devices" section on Amazon.com -> Devices -> My Kindle -> View device content: there are some books have a note "Update available".
So maybe your Kindle is trying to download new versions asap?
