So anyway, it's not registered at all and not reported or blacklisted.

The B008 Kindle Keyboard only has feature to set the time, not date. Also that's only available when registered. I thought it had died, but it's just the stupid Kindles run the battery flat in the drawer. I only use it for tests. It's FW 3.4.3 and needs to occasionally connect to WiFi if the date is out by more than a day.
My G090 PW3 also only can set the time on the user interface, FW 5.12.2

I've not tried the ;st YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM command on the 6" keyboard or PW3, in case it breaks something! They are both WiFi only. The DXG is 3G only.

So which usb . bin file works with a DXG, though maybe the serial console is simpler as I have HW (is it 5V or 3.3V, I have both) and did years ago have the cover open. Though I think I saw two sets of serial port files. I did see an instructable somewhere, so I can connect to the correct set.

Or am I doing the ;st YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM command wrong?
