I was in that same situation--a yearly membership, at the end of which I had half a dozen or so credits left. I went to the silver membership, and I'm really happy with it--one credit every two months, and I still get all the sales and membership perks. The silver membership can be put on hold, which would skip only one payment/credit. If you have a gold (monthly) membership, you can put it on hold for three months.
For me, the silver membership was a no-brainer.
