What they say.
Any passive reflective colour system will be poor. Actual colored eInk really poor as it needs about x5 light.
Mirasol isn't eInk and is dead, it had some promise of being good being slightly based on how some feathers and butterflies work without pigments.

Someone would need to invent a four layer display using Yellow, Cyan, Magenta (each of those colour or transparent) on top of existing monochrome, which is a milky white liquid with black balls. No such tech exists because inherently coloured LCD layers are BLACK or translucent coloured, not transparent or coloured.
Any RGB or

colour dye layer is 1/5th brightness, at least and needs either 900 x 300 or 600 x 600 to give overall 300 x 300 dpi.

It's not going to happen as eReaders are a niche product compared to OLED and LCD tablets. We don't even have real LED phones & tablets outside of demos. OLED is really electroluminescent printed dots with phosphors, not true crystal per sub pixel R G B LEDs.
Sony did have a demo of a real LED TV, called Crystal LED TV. Very large panels use real discrete LEDs.
