I think the root problem is that this is a badly made PPT. It appears that none of the problem slides use a layout. Also, the pictures that don't transfer are scanned images from textbooks and reference manuals. They are all in the 1200 by 1600 range.

I do have a workaround. Do you have OpenOffice? If you open the PPT in OpenOffice, you can export it as HTML with an image for each slide. I tried sending the collected HTML files and images to my Kindle. If I get it, I'll send it to you.

There are actually a lot of export options in OpenOffice. If you go this route, you should experiment and see which one is best for you.
