Can't judge dithering given the picture quality, but what I can discern is a different grayscaling process: one of them is gamma corrected, the other is linear (c.f., the 42's tone, probably also affects the contrast between the hair and the bandana).

(That's the *Luma vs. *Luminance algo in IM speak for the -grayscale switch).

So, curious: is it the same source? Is that the native reader in each case? Or KOReader?
