Linux on Desktop is MUCH more likely than Color eInk, because it's been viable for more than 10 years and for 20 for niche users. Win 10 is driving adoption
So not comparable. Colour eink simply can't compete with brightness & contrast of mono eink or quality of colour LCD even 20 years ago. Non-eink such as Mirasol showed some promise. You'd need a low loss transmissive four layer CYMK technology for any ambient light display. Each layer clear or translucent. White/Black at rear, Clear/Yellow on top.
Because using RGB or
RG
GB
filters on a mono display cuts brightness to about 1/4 or less, so it only works with a front light. You also need a minimum 600 dpi to be equivalent to 300 dpi mono.
