As long as you're not a target for somebody it should be as safe as offline presence. But if you're a target of somebody then you're screwed.

Fun fact: internet opens new ways to be selected as a target just because the attacker isn't restricted based on location. So most of us, in spite of not being targets of serious corporations, can become targets of some random thief just because we're easier to track than others.

Yeah, the whole "privacy thing" has nothing to do with ebooks, but there's some directives than can be applied here too, like "don't put all the eggs on the same basket"
