I went for Name of the Dead by Kevin Wignall as my first choice, because I've read some of his other books and enjoyed them.

And for my second choice I took a chance on The Future of Feeling by Kaitlin Ugolik Phillips - mostly because it mentions empathy as a central issue. And whenever I think about the polarization we are seeing today (without blaming one particular side, since we're supposed to stay away from politics here), I tend to think that a lack of empathy is one of the causes. So, I'll be interested to see what Phillips says about it.
