But working for a publisher, the mainstream ereaders are the important ones and a solution has to work simply within the ebook, no extra steps for users.
I agree, there are all sorts of possible solutions if you are doing it for yourself. It's sad how poor the original language / fonts support was on ereaders and ebook formats when it was already a solved problem on all widely used OSes, a sort of unintentional racism by being too lazy to implement other than basically Roman-Latin.
