@peter0conor Install Calibre in Windows 10. Create a blank database. Then go to Preferences > Miscellaneous > Open calibre configuration directory and clodse Calibre. You want to copy the configuration directory from your Linux version to your Windows version. Also, if your active library is in the VM, copy that out as well. If not, next time you run Calibre, switch to your library.

You will be good to go and so will the VM be good to go (away). Whoever told you Linux is more stable then Windows 10 is giving ou a large steaming pile of crap.
