Bedford-Jones, H: The Opium Ship (1919); v1; 3 Jan 2020

At the end of WW1, a British navy aviator, on the beach in the Philipines, discovers that his seemingly wealthy, titled uncle has died destitute, leaving him a nothing but a baronetcy.

He signs on a somewhat mysterious voyage in an Islands trading schooner...

From a 1919 serial. Just 38,000 words or so, not quite a novel but too long for a short story.
