Bedford-Jones, H: The Gate of Farewell (1924);v1, 3 Jan 2020

Introducing H Bedford-Jones' series character John Solomon, in a novel which was originally a 1914 serial as by H Bedford-Jones, and published in book form as by Alan Hawkwood. It was the first of a long series.

It is 1914 and the Ottoman empire is disintegrating. Down on the Red Sea an ambitious war leader is building up his own mini-empire. Into this comes the hero, in search of his brother who went missing in the area two or three years before.

Enter John Solomon, ostensibly a plump, baby-blue-eyed ships chandler in Port Said...
