I doubt the translations are done using google. But, I do know they fix translation errors when they are reported. Though, I do know they sometimes have problems fitting the translations o the screen, so some aren't ideal

Well, for one thing they don't have to worry about DRM. So, they can use whatever libraries they want.

Except for the top and bottom margins, Kobo have a lot of fine-tuning. But, of course, it is never going to meet every ones desires.

There is a problem with this statement. It isn't "Andriod" that does this. Afterall, tolino devices are all based on Android and they have less customisation option than a Kobo devices. It is the chosen reading app that is important. And that requires that you can find an app that does the customisation that is important to you, without messing other things up.
