Despite the (little-known) theological distinction between 'demon' and 'daemon', I suspect the people behind both Linux and Demon Internet were perfectly aware of the connotations that would be made.
And didn't Demon revel in it! I discover that "Their PPP server was called ragnarok.demon.co.uk". '666' featured in their support numbers (though they could always pretend it was the Unix 666 universal permission code.) I've yet to rediscover the list of their server names...
