Many of use get books from various sources. I use e-ink Kindles for most of my reading. Books in ePub format can't be read on an e-ink Kindle, so the format must be converted. You generally can't do that without first removing the DRM.

I also like being able to back up all of my books, so I don't have to depend on internet access to download a book. I do happily use the Amazon system 95% of the time. But if something happens, and I can't access Amazon, my books are all stored on my desktop AIO.
