My preferred font for ebooks (mostly epubs, that is) is the one that has characters for all the accents and, as far as possible, different alphabets/scripts/writing systems (Greek, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Chinese etc.). The font should also have serif and non-serif and monospace versions, all complete with italic and bold styles.

Currently, DejaVu and Noto fonts fit the bill and are easiest to obtain.
