@posixx: Is your "Device" block up to date?
Because the Libra has a gyro, so I'm not quite sure why you're trying to reinvent the wheel here ^^.
In any case, KOReader supports the Libra's gyro, and supports all four possible orientations when reading (c.f., first tab of the bottom menu in a book, tapping the current orientation switches to its invert). The File Manager is portrait only, though (but will switch to Inverted Portrait (i.e., for lefties) *if requested by the gyro*).
Plato supports all four orientations pretty much everywhere, IIRC.
