You might want a screen protector if your pen nibs scratch the screen, but I wouldn't use one to try to protect the screen from breaking. The fragile glass substrates are on the other side of the eink film (i.e. under your display) and are usually broken by twisting or bending the device. Plastic substrates don't need any extra protection at all since they aren't fragile.
