I've gotten that message, too. It isn't always right. There are sometimes non-Apple products that the ipods &c. work with anyway.
But of course, on a Touch, I wouldn't think you'd need an accessory to get radio, so long as you can get on wifi. Plenty of radio apps out there. Or you could get a cell phone with radio.
My own solution, before I got my iPhone, was to acquire a tiny am/fm radio, about the size of the new shuffle. Those seem to be harder to find these days, at least ones that work, at a price that isn't outrageous.
