If you have the opportunity to go see TVs in a store, try standing at about the distance you would be at home and see what you can see. I can tell you that I sit maybe 8-10 feet from my 24 inch tv and though I can read closed captioning set to its largest size, other things, like if a TV character is reading a note which is shown on screen, or onscreen menus for my Roku streaming stick, are tiny. Also credits at the end of a show are usually too small to see.
It's frustrating because in general the picture is big enough for what I need, it's just the text that's not. I bought the TV to fit in the cabinet I had for my previous TV. At some point I may have to give up and buy a bigger cabinet and a bigger TV.
