Secondly, I am wondering if anyone here omitted default registration and went straight to this one-click KOReader/Plato installation? I am getting my Clara HD tomorrow and I want to do the following:
1. Backup the existing firmare by extracting full image of internal SD card.
2. Bypass registration by the slick SQL trick described in https://yingtongli.me/blog/2018/07/30/kobo-rego.html. It says you can get the firmware updates simply by enabling WiFi and clicking on 'Sync now'.
3. One-click install kfmon+KOReader+Plato as described in this thread.

I am wondering if this is a sound. Did anyone take similar steps recently? Thanks!
Yes, that's fine. But, I honestly don't get the point of doing it. I find it more useful to patch out the Kobo account related UI stuff.

Also, don't bother with a full SD backup (unless you want it for other reasons). It's more trouble than it's worth, an everything here can be undone with a full reset.
