I've seen those, and I like them, but I don't think they'd give a lunch-stealer so much as a minor pause. You have to make the misdirection at least somewhat plausible.

Given that I work in a university, labeling an otherwise unmarked container with "Sample: 87634086 Date: 3/13/09" would probably do it.
