Kobo with RBdigital - compatibility?

my Uk library has switched from using overdrive to RBdigital. It switched in august but as I am only an occasional user, i only found out yesterday that my libby app does not work and that overdrive search says there aner no libraries near to where I live

info on compatibility is hard to find, the library website has only this:
"Which eReaders are compatible with the new service?
RB Digital’s eBook service is compatible with a number of different eReaders including Kindle Fire (not Kindle). If you are having difficulty you may need to change your settings within Adobe Digital Editions and check that it is not still connected to Overdrive.
We are aware that some users are experiencing difficulties using their Kobo devices and RBDigital are currently looking into this.
I was considering buying a new kobo, partly for the direct library integration - should I just forget that and assume it will not be available ?

FYI
1. the RBdigital Amazon Fire tablet app is a disaster, I tracked it down in the amazon app store , installed it to my new 2019 Fire HD 10 and it crashes and closes itself whenever I try to use it - so I am not hopeful of any workable solution for kobo readers.
but I will appreciate any links to more/better information

2. I was able to borrow an epub ebook after some faffing around re registering... using PC and ADE2.0

3. the RDdigital reader app works on my Huawei M5 tablet - but the actual reader bit is horribly primitive compared to libby. Text on smallest setting is way too large on 10 inch and customisation features are pretty much non existent.

4. the RBdigital app reviews in google store are awful - the reading experience is allegedly very glitchy

I wish my library had not changed supplier. I have tried googling to see if it possible to pay to join a UK library in another county that still uses overdrive but it seems that no UK library offers that, the only workaround is to find a friend in a suitable location who is willing to share their library card.
