collections are like "virtual folders" which can be created for a series or using tags (a collection will be made for every tag used though, so it's best not to add 300 tags or you'll have as many collections... ). this is very nice for organising your library particularly as it means you could have the same book in more than one collection : for instance, it could be part of a series, so it would appear under the name of the series, but if you add a "mystery" tag it will *also* appear in the "mystery" collection.

i'm not positive, but i think if you delete the books from the collections via the device interface, you delete the collection as well. BUT i could be wrong about that. i can't remember now how i did that last time.
