It's not so bad as a Prime member with free returns, but as a non-Prime customer you'd have to pay to return it in order to re-order a new device and that stinks.

If it is brand new, I don't think non-prime members have to pay for the return. And, unless they've cancelled the service, returns can be dropped of at a UPS store, who will package it for shipping at no charge. One of the few parts of amazon still working really well (in my one use experience).
