It's been a long while since I posted here, so a couple of recent standouts:

- Her Body and Other Parties, by Carmen Maria Machado: creeeepy unconventional 21st-century horror/fantasy/magical realism stories. This is nothing like Stephen King or the kinds of horror with lots of voyeuristic violence against women - it reminds me more of Kaaron Warren and Margo Lanagan in her more horror-ish modes. Incredibly well written, but not for the faint-hearted (or those who don't want any on-page sex).

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: Escapist happy M/M romance between the First Son of the USA and the Royal Spare Prince of the UK. Just fun and joyful and thoroughly enjoyable.

Keep Calm & Kill The Chef by Livia Day: Third in a cosy mystery series set in Hobart café world. Again, just fun. I've been in the mood for a lot of that lately.

Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell: Autumn-themed YA graphic novel. Adorable.

A Single Stone by Meg McKinlay: technically YA but definitely crossover fantasy. Teams of deliberately-stunted young girls for teams to crawl into the mountain for harvest. But there are dark secrets to uncover. One of my best books of the year.
