I've never attempted it with books on the Volumes app, so I had no idea how difficult it would be to do so. From skinmaan's response, it looks to be a pain and something I'm not willing to do.
Books loaded using the Volumes app are stored locally on that device and no where else, hence the reason why deleting the app also deletes your only copy of the book. That's very lame. If you want this book on multiple devices, you'll need to download it directly to each device. That also means there's no syncing between devices.
Bottom line: consider it a one-time loan. Then you won't care about losing the book if you delete the app.

So far, I have the app on two devices and each device has a different book.
I have to say, I didn't realize just how bad the Volumes app is. Shame on PRH for crippling the app. I certainly wouldn't pay real money for downloading any books to it.
